At her husband Eli’s urging, Gangaji traveled to India in 1990 to meet Papaji. Upon arriving, she received Papaji’s welcome and profound invitation to freedom. Circumstances required Gangaji to return to the US after only six weeks. Immediately, Papaji and Gangaji’s exchange of letters became an essential connection as she visited him in India only four more times. In the thrill and bliss of self-realization, Gangaji would eagerly anticipate the arrival of Papaji’s next letter, sometimes writing him more than twice a day. Their correspondence continued until just months before his death in 1997. Following in this tradition, Gangaji reads all the letters she receives. While she cannot respond to all the letters she receives, she personally knows the value of the very writing itself.
